Blowing Bubbles Quilt

I have started another quilt from the Quilts, BABY! book by Linda Kopp. This one is for my friend Laura's baby that is due in June! I have delayed this post a little so she could check out the blog and not ruin the surprise. Laura is my dear friend I recently visited in Brooklyn. We had such a wonderful time and it was just like we were never apart.

Blowing Bubbles by Marné Cales

This is the backing fabric "lorenza" by Alexander Henry
with Moda pink wood grain for the binding

These fabrics will make up the bubbles

At first glance the quilt looks to be a breeze to make but I have quickly realized that hand embroidering the bubbles will take some time. I love the fabrics but then I think I have a little addiction to the fabric store so I say that about every quilt I make.

Off to the bubbles!

Auction Quilt Rap Up

Our auction was Saturday night and I have just now recovered. The making of the quilt moved along pretty quickly until Friday when I thought it would be a good idea to try hand finishing the binding for the first time. Well that was a crazy idea and at 12:30 AM I decided to get to bed and finish the next day before the auction started. After a busy morning of helping to set up the auction and attending Cecilia's first Birthday party. I started in on finishing the binding which took 2 1/2 more hours. To give you an idea if you are not a quilter I could have done this on the machine in 10 minutes! Needless to say I was very tired the night of but the event was a lot of fun and raised a lot of money for the school.

Here are a few photos of the quilt. I had to take the pictures very quickly as we were leaving for the auction so they are not my best work.

For the quilting I chose to quilt lines at random intervals but
then stitch in the ditch around the rectangles.
My studio is now a wreck so it's clean up time and then on to the next project.

Auction Quilt

This is the top of the quilt which I really like but I also wonder if it's too busy. I'm not really sure yet but I know when I make the quilt sandwich and do all the quilting it will transform a little. The quilt needs to be done by Saturday but as long and I don't have any quilting problems I think it will only take a few days.

The Quilts Continue

Before I had time to figure out what to do next I had committed to making a quilt for the school auction. Of course it was my idea so I am not complaining. Part of the reason I wanted to do this is I have been wanting to create my own design for a quilt. It will be a combination of a few of the quilts I have done in the past. Coming up with the design was a piece of cake but figuring out the construction was a little harder. Another reason for the quilt is that I have a lot of fabric left over from my other quilts that I want to work with. Of course I wanted to add a few new ones as well and have been looking for a reason to go to my new favorite fabric store Cool Cottons. They have so many great patterns and color combinations!! They also cut any fabric into fat quarters and I only needed a few, this is one of my favorites.
Love the pink wood grain!

This is Clementine by Westminster it will be the backing and around the squares.

Just a hint of the quilt
I am hoping to get the top sewn together this weekend and I will post a photo.

I love my Laundry Room

I have been busy busy with auction stuff but have been wanting to share this for a few weeks it's my laundry room! My husband and I have been slowly working on fixing the laundry room up for a while now and we finally did a big push last month. We are in phase 3 now and I am hoping there will be no phase 4 but I don't know if I can stop my husband...

In phase 1 we had ripped out all the big inefficient cabinets and old sink and had to have some plumbing replaced in the floor. We also had a wall framed out with a doorway.

In phase 2 my husband built a wine cellar and two closets. One for the laundry room and one that is attached to my studio. This photo is after we put in the new floor.

Phase 3 he framed out a wall to install new cabinets on

The new floor and cabinets
Here it is all done! The far wall is what my husband would like to be phase 4, he wants to cover it with tile I would be ok with just painting it either way the new space makes me happy!
