My Love for Spray Basting!

I know there was a post a while back where I mentioned I was trying spray basting for the first time and liked it but I actually love it! Yes I'll "marry spray basting". My feelings became really clear to me when I was getting ready to baste the linen quilt top. This is my first time working with linen and for those of you that haven't it's a wiggly little fabric that doesn't like to stay in one place. My seams looked pretty good but I was worried about keeping them straight as I sandwiched the whole thing together and voila it came out great!!

The reasons I like Spray Basting

  1. It's fast!
  2. No pins to stick me while I'm quilting.
  3. Everything stays in place, especially nice in the case of linen.
  4. Did I mention it's fast?!

Concerns I had before I tried it

  1. It would be smelly- I have a sensitive nose and I do this in the basement but the fumes are really minimal.
  2. Over spray would be messy- There was a slight over spray the first few times but I just cleaned it up with some spray cleaner. Now I have a piece of cardboard I hold along the edges so no over spray.

After I had the quilt all ready to sew I realized I wasn't happy with my thread color so I ran back to Montivilla to get some thread and ended up splurging on a walking foot! It actually wasn't as expensive as I thought ($28.95) and eventually I knew I should get one so why wait.

I am having a lot of fun with the quilting but I am ready to move on to the next quit. I should be done with the quilting and hopefully the binding tonight. Next up Project Modern 2!

Very interesting... I have been contemplating spray basting myself as I am about to make a slew of baby quilts :) - good to hear your review! And fun about the walking foot!

I've used it for an on-point quilt that had some waviness to it. Someone told me it's bad for your machine, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Katie- I did ask the ladies at Cool Cottons about that and they hadn't had any problems. I also have been checking my needle to see if it gets gummy and that hasn't happened either. I am not sure how it would get in the machine sandwiched between the fabric but I'll ask the next time I'm at the sewing machine store out of curiosity.

I might like spray basting, but frankly I'm distracted by your QUILT.
