This is the block I made after being made into a pillow by Claire. I made the center squares bordered in pale yellow.Claire did the piecing around the block and I think it works perfectly. She is a members niece and she did a great job with her first time machine quilting. It really turned out great! Also included were some bright buttons I could use for closure if I wanted to and they coordinate really well.
The block I received was from Megan and I had already read about it on her blog in a paper piecing post so I was a little intimidated seeing it in person. I started by turning the block then added the orange fabric that I happened to have. I had so much fun quilting it and went a little crazy switching grey and orange thread for the echo pattern.
On the back I used more of the Grey Heath fabric which is my new favorite and some mixed buttons I had. My play date plan fell through yesterday and I ran out of time for the binding which will be a pale grey.
You can see it's sunny here in Portland and I couldn't resist taking my photos outdoors. Here is my favorite flower from a Japanese Tree Peony I planted a few years ago. They smell like roses.

I love the block you made originally... love that improvisational piecing, I should do more in that direction! :)
