Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone! 

I made this little mini quilt for my book club holiday gift exchange using Val's tutorial. I don't know if you all remember but I was lucky enough to have Val as my roomie for the first Sewing Summit and I hope to see her again at Quiltcon. It's hard to see but my white background fabric is a white on white snowflake print so I tried to do quilting that reminded me of snow falling. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas this year and a Happy New Year!

Holiday Swap

 I have been waiting to share my Swap gift for the PMQG holiday party so I wouldn't give anything away. Heather gave me the bag she drew because I liked the fabric so much and it ended up being Elizabeth's fabric. Immediately I knew I wanted to put the fabric up on the design wall and let it fall into place.

After deciding on the final layout I started adding Cotton
Couture Kaki. It's one of my favorite solids.It's true color is a little in-between the two in these photos. 

I had so much fun making this, improving the design and working with colors that I don't usually use it's liberating! Elizabeth couldn't make it to the meeting but Jen texted her a photo and she said she loved it yay! I hope she likes it as much in person.

November Book Club

I read this book in October but we just met the end of November and December is flying by sorry for the delay! 
I enjoyed this memoir by Kim Severson but I am a bit of a food nerd so I really enjoyed hearing some of the stories about Alice Waters and Ruth Reichl among other well known chefs and food critics. During book club the book was enjoyed by all but didn't spark much discussion regarding the book itself but did bring up issues of food in our country and Americas eating habits. I think that speaks well of the book. If you don't know who Kim Severson is she is now the Atlanta Bureau Head for the New York Times after being the dining writer for the New York Times. I found the review by the New York times to be really interesting if you want to read something more in depth. 

We take December off for our Holiday party but our book for January is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It's a suspense thriller and I'm already hooked!

We decorated the tree last night.

I have really loved reading about all of your favorite ornaments. It just puts me in the Christmas spirit! There is definitly a lot of family heirlome and handmade by kids favorites but I love the funny ones as well. I always respond to all of my comments but I might not make it through all 322 of them so bear with me. Now the winner is... number 286 who said!

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

A little bit about myself my name is Pétra I live in Portland Oregon with my Husband, two kids, two dogs, four chickens, and some fish. I blog about quilting but also a little about chickens and gf food. I have been so fortunate to have a wonderful group of quilters here in Portland and I have enjoyed being on the Portland Modern Quilt Guild board for the past year. I have a background in fine arts started quilting and blogging in 2008 and never looked back. Oh How I've Missed You

Something happened, I just lost a few weeks and it's barely December. It all started with a stomach virus (my husband and daughter) right after Thanksgiving and then just one thing after another. I tell you about this not as an excuse but just that I really miss blogging when I get pulled away! It's funny that sharing on my little blog is such a part of my life now that I feel sad when I don't get to. It's not just writing but also keeping up with what everyone else is doing that I miss. So hello everyone I'm back for some holiday sewing and blogging. There are swaps, teacher gifts, charity quilts, and all the other holiday activities to enjoy. I almost missed Giveaway Day so that's later today!

Just to get the ball rolling I have to go back in time to Thanksgiving. I won turkey and it was not from a new line of fabric. A local Portland blogger, Sara from the blog Go Gingham Stylishly Frugal Living gave away a Heritage Breed turkey sponsored by Whole Foods. 

We had a little side by side comparison with my Dad's turkey and they were both good (my husband thought mine was better) but I noticed the Heritage turkey had a nice gamey flavor that I liked. 

So now on to December!
