I think we are one of the last book clubs to read Cutting For Stone but it was worth the wait. If you haven't read it don't miss out. It's a moving story set in Ethiopia of twin brothers born to an Indian Nun and British surgeon. The story is complex as are the characters and I found it so engrossing. We had a wonderful book club discussion revolving around the characters and medical issues in the book. One of our members was lucky enough to join in a small talk with the author Abraham Verghese who is a Doctor and professor at Stanford. She learned that one of his goals for writing the book was to awaken a passion in people to go into medicine. There is an underlying theme of listening to patients for diagnoses and the different reasons all of the characters are driven into care is interesting. A very moving dramatic read!!
Our book for July is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson a Y.A. novel.
What are you reading now? I also just finished the Kite Runner another book I should have read awhile ago.
