I headed over to my book page and updated what I've been reading. We're reading Wool this month by Hue Howey. Also I'm in a movie club now, because of course I need more activities every month! Is anyone interested in following along with that?
There has been a lot of sewing going on lately which has been good for my sanity with all the turmoil in my life as of late. Here is the first quilt I'll share with you, it's Miriam's Quilt. For those of you that have been following me since 2009, wow!, this is for my sister's 3rd girl in 5 years!! I have made the same quilt for each but in different fabrics so it's been really fun. Here is the beginning stages of the quilt I'll share the completed quilt soon. For this version my sister picked out a crib sheet she liked and I used that in the center of the block.
This is basically a wonky log cabin block from the book Quilts Baby. The quilt pattern was really well written by Laura Ducommun and I've actually made it 4 times.
The first time was for my friend Deirdre's first baby Liam and I called it the Ducky quilt. It was also my first quilt and I attempted free motion quilting which was a challenge. I had no idea what I was getting into!
Here is the second version I made for my Niece Cecilia.
Here is the third version I made for my Niece Lydia.
This time around I like how it looks paired with a color for the background rather then white. Also I am really excited to try the same radiating circle quilting pattern with my new Janome Horizon machine versus my old Janome Décore. I'll let you know how that turns out.
I'm happy to be back see you soon!
